Happy New Year's Day!

Happy, Happy New Year 2014

Wow!  That's the first time I have typed 2014.  It will take some time getting used to writing that number.  (Sometimes I find myself actually starting with 19..  Whoa! )

The Nelsons rang in the New Year by...sleeping.  Yep, we are BIG partiers.  Actually we were all exhausted.  Over Christmas break, we spent several days in Michigan with my husband's family--think 16 hours each way.  That's 32 hours in a car...with four people, a dog, luggage, presents, and pillows and pillows and pillows.

We are celebrating today with a dear friend, Marie Brickman, who usually joins us New Year's Eve, but since the Nelsons decided to rest instead of party, she will be having supper with us.  And what does one serve on New Year's Day in the South?  Well, it is supposed to be black eye peas, greens (as in collard or turnip), and cornbread.  No traditional greens in the house, so we are making do with fried okra.  :)    I'm also adding a pork loin for good measure.

I am a bit afraid to make any type of resolution since I ALWAYS break them.  ALWAYS.  So, I'm going to make a list of things I WOULD LIKE to accomplish and/or change this year.

  1. Draw closer and closer and closer to God.
  2. Love my family and friends through actions and kind, soft words.
  3. Make each day a celebration for my family and me.
  4. Let go of the "stuff" in my life that does not bring glory to my God.
Through it all, I am holding on the God's promises....
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”       John 16:33
